Use your words

Maybe it's because my mother was an English major, maybe it's because she used to grade my papers before I turned them in, maybe it's because she used to correct my speech when I would use incorrect words and/or phrases. I don't know.

What I do know is that I HATE it when people can't be bothered to type out a word and instead use numbers or singular letters.

For example: I can't w8 2 c u l8er.

Is it really that hard to type out the words wait, to, see, you, and later? I mean come on. I just want to shake people who do this (some people on iVillage are the biggest offenders) . Not you Chrissy!

I will say that I don't have a problem with this when texting as I do understand that you may have a limited number of characters you can use per text as well as it being kind of tedious to type out long words on a phone's keypad. However, I still type everything out, I can't help it.

The other problem I have is when people constantly spell a word incorrectly, pronounce a word incorrectly, or use a word of which they clearly have no grasp of the meaning. The occasional typo is one thing, but all the time?

I understand that many people don't feel the need to keep a dictionary and/or thesaurus around because of the internet and that's fine. If you fall into one of these three groups, please direct your browsers to www.dictionary.com not only will you find a dictionary there, but you will also find a thesaurus and encyclopedia. Imagine the possibilities!

SO SO SO right there with you.

After writing my last blog, I had someone say to me, "why didn't you tell me!? It's like not telling me I had spinach in my teeth!"

I'm usually good about quietly letting people know they are screwing up, but then I always feel like a "know it all". Personally, I'd rather know, feel stupid for a minute, and fix my error.

But yeah, use your words... and for the love of bacon, use them properly.
